From the Author: I live in Southern California and have been country dancing for over 7 years. I have spent countless nights out both line dancing and partner dancing and like to travel to find all the good places to dance. I still really enjoy dancing the Electric Slide! Author bio here. Whether you dance at your local country bar or in a community center with friends, this month is probably going to see some special line dances to celebrate the Christmas season. For this, I thought I would put together a quick round-up of some good Christmas line dances.
As I prepared this I found out there are quite possibly hundreds of Christmas-themed line dances (just try the search on Copperknob)! Also, for this list, I’ve reached out to some choreographer & instructor friends I know to help me get some good Christmas line dances!
So, thank you, Carrie Wojciechowski, Jeannie Lin, Jen Michele, Alexander Logan Jung, & Bonita Malone for the contributions! And special thanks to Britt Beresik who supplied me with most of these!
Here is the round-up of 25 Christmas Line Dances to try out and teach this month!
25 Christmas Line Dances
All My Line Dance Lists – Quick Links!
For these Christmas line dances I wanted to keep them at a fairly beginner level. If you are looking for even more beginner line dances for the rest of the year, check out my post 20 Beginner Line Dances You Need to Know! (2024 Update).
1. Ah Si!
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Ultra Beginner |
Choreographer: Rita Masur (CAN)
Music: Feliz Navidad by Jose Feliciano
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
To begin with, we’ll start with an ultra beginner line dance! Most of these dances will be beginner line dances since really the idea of having a Christmas line dance is just to inject a little Christmas atmosphere into our line dance community and meet-ups while we can. We’ll leave the higher-level dances to the rest of the year!
Also, some of these dances just take existing line dances and find Christmas songs that work with them! That is the case with Ah Si! This line dance is normally danced to the song Levantando las Manos by El Simbolo. But just play José Feliciano’s Feliz Navidad and you have a great ultra beginner line dance for the month of December!
Ah Si! is a dance I’ve also included in my list of 20 Beginner Line Dances You Need to Know! (2024 Update).
2. All I Want for Christmas
Count: 32 | Wall: 1 | Level: High Beginner |
Choreographer: Seo Miseo – December 2018
Music: All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
Step Sheet: (none available)
Suggested by: Fred Astaire Dance Studio
I found this line dance in a suggestion on Facebook! It was posted on the Fred Astaire Dance Studio page about a year ago. I really loved it and notice that it is a 1 wall dance! And although the steps make it a high beginner-level dance, it should still be something pretty easy to teach and pick up.
Below is the YouTube video with a great demo that almost has the dancers facing away from you, but then also a walk-through (although not in English). Here is a link to the Facebook video where you can see the Fred Astair Dance students totally kill this dance!
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to be on Copperknob, so you’ll have to just watch and pick it up in the video.
3. All My X’s Live In Texas
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreography: Diana Kale (USA) – February 2015
Music: Little Saint Nick by the Beach Boys
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
For the next one, it may not look like it could be a Christmas line dance but just swap out the famous George Strait song for the Beach Boys Christmas favorite Little Saint Nick, and you’re ready to go!
This is another dance suggested by Britt Beresik again and no wonder, she is very familiar with it and even has a walk-through and demo video that I’ve included right here.
4. Boat On The River
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreography: Dave Young
Music: Mary’s Boy Child by Boney M. alternate song: Last Christmas by Wham (slower version)
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
Here is another Christmas line dance that just swaps out the song, but this one is interesting because the music is by the same artist! Boney M. gave us Boat On The River, but also Mary’s Boy Child, and the songs are very similar.
And interestingly enough there are some YouTube videos that demo other versions of line dances to Mary’s Boy Child by Boney M. This version, choreographed by Dave Young only has videos of the Boat On The River version. But that should be all you need to teach & learn this line dance.
5. Canadian Stomp
Count: 40 | Wall: 4 | Level: Absolute Beginner |
Choreography: Cindy Hall & Ginny Smith – 1999
Music: Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
Canadian Stomp usually is danced to the Canadian singer Shania Twain’s song What a Man Wants, but the very different song Holly Jolly Christmas song works amazingly with it and although its 40 counts it still qualifies as an absolute beginner, so all classes should be fair game.
6. Christmas Always Finds Me
Count: 24 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner Waltz |
Choreography: Bonita Malone
Music: Christmas Always Finds Me by Ingrid Andress
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Bonita Malone
For #6, I have something a little different. My friend Bonita Malone contributed her own line dance Christmas Always Finds Me. So, no song swapping out here! A choreographed Christmas line dance.
This is a really great option in that it is truly a beginner dance, but is also a waltz! And the song is very pretty. This is another great option for your classes and any line dance meet-ups this month.
7. Come Dance with Me
Count: 24 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner Foxtrot |
Choreography: Jo Thompson-Szymanski
Music: Christmas Island by Lion Redbone
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
I was really excited to see this one, yet another Britt suggestion. This is a Jo Thompson-Szymanski classic. And if you don’t know this one yet, it is just a great line dance to know about and know how to dance if there might be an occasion.
The step sheet describes the song as a gentle country West Coast Swing with a cool-jazz/soft-shoe feel.
8. A Christmas Twist
Count: 64 | Wall: 2 | Level: Beginner Contra |
Choreographer: Junghye Yoon (KOR)
Music: A Christmas Twist by Si Cranstoun
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Alexander Logan Jung
This line dance will be taught this year at The Ranch in Anaheim, CA by one of the instructors there Anthony Logan Jung. So, thanks Anthony for this one! He’ll teach it on a Thursday, which is generally a more advanced crowd.
The dance is 64 counts, but still considered a beginner dance!
9. Cut A Rug
Count: 32 | Wall: 2 | Level: Ultra Beginner |
Choreography: Jo Thompson-Szymanski (USA) & Rita Thompson (USA)
Music: Jingle Bells by The Tractors
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
Yay! Another Jo Thompson line dance for Christmas. And this one is an ultra beginner! This dance can also be done as a contra line dance since it is a 2 wall dance.
10. Crystal Touch
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Low Improver |
Choreographer: Claire Bell (UK) & Maddison Glover (AUS) – February 2020
Music: Merry Christmas From Texas Y’all by Andy Lee Young
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
For this one, we have a really great beginner workshop line dance from Claire Bell & Maddison Glover. Check out the great videos of these amazing choreographers both demonstrating & teaching the dance at the Crystal Boot Awards in early 2020. And then just swap out the original song Slow Hand that the dance was made for to Merry Christmas From Texas Y’all.
11. Electric Slide
Count: 18 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: Ric Silver (1976)
Music: Jingle Bell Rock
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Jen Michele
The Electric Slide is a great go-to easy beginner dance that works with, really countless songs. So, it makes sense to just have fun switching out the normal electric slide songs for a good Christmas song like Jingle Bell Rock.
Elsewhere in my blog, I included the Electric Slide in 20 Beginner Line Dances You Need To Know. Check out that blog post as well to see a good round-up of popular easy line dances and also click here to go to a little more info on the Electric Slide.
12. Eye Candy
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: Gerard Murphy (CAN)
Music: Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Jen Michele
Eye Candy is another great beginner line dance that works with a lot of different music. Just swap out the original Candy Man by Christine Aguilera for Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree!
13. K is For Kicks
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Absolute Beginner |
Choreographer: Christopher Gonzalez (USA) – April 2017
Music: All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
K is for Kicks is a very fun and popular line dance from Christopher Gonzalez. Click here to see what he was up to lately in Vegas! Remember the song? “Ooh woo, I’m a rebel just for kicks, now I been feeling it since 1966”? Well, turns out it works with Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You as well!
14. Last Christmas
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: SANSOUN (ES) – January 2020
Music: Last Christmas – Cascada
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Carrie Wojciechowski
Last Christmas is a great Christmas classic, so I’m glad there is a line dance for it this month! This dance was choreographed for it–so, no song swap here, just a true Christmas line dance!
15. Lipstick Tango
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: High Beginner – Tango Syle |
Choreographer: Michele Burton
Music: Mrs. Claus Ain’t Got Nothin On Me by Little Jackie
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
Here’s a fun tango-style line dance that is a little more challenging at a high beginner level. Just swap out the original song The Lipstick On His Collar for Mrs. Claus Ain’t Got Nothin’ On Me by Little Jackie.
16. A Little Sweet
Count: 16 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: Dan Albro (USA) – February 2015
Music: Must Be Christmas by Jake Matthews
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Ron Bloye
As Britt says below in her demo & teach of A Little Sweet, this is a “Little Sweet Line Dance!” And at just 16 counts it truly is a very simple dance to teach and learn, and with the little song swap of Sugar by Maroon 5 for Baby It’s Cold Outside it is great for Christmas time.
But here’s the bonus for me: It is a country Christmas song! So, how great to have a good country Christmas line dance to teach & learn this month in all our country dance saloons!
17. Must Be Christmas
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: Ron Bloye (UK) – November 2021
Music: Must Be Christmas by Jake Matthews
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Ron Bloye
Thank you Ron Bloye for this one. Ron shared his newly choreographed Christmas line dance on Facebook. I’m glad this one ended up on my list! So, no song swap for this one, but just a fresh new dance–thanks Ron!
But here’s the bonus for me: It is a country Christmas song! So, how great to have a good country Christmas line dance to teach & learn this month in all our country dance saloons!
18. Peppermint Twist
Count: 48 | Wall: 4 | Level: High Beginner |
Choreographer: Jo Thompson-Szymanski (USA) & Roy Verdonk (NL – October 2021
Music: A Christmas Twist by Si Cranston
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Jen Michele
So, this one I’m really excited about! Peppermint Twist is a new line dance that Jo Thompson & Roy Verdonk recently choreographed together in October 2021. Jo Thompson-Szymanski taught her new dance at the recent Vegas Dance Explosion. Click here to check out what else she and Roy Verdonk taught in Vegas!
Jen Michele suggested that maybe there might be a good Christmas song that could work for this. I loved the idea since the title Peppermint Twist already seems so Christmas-y! When I added to this list of 25 dances the line dance A Christmas Twist! I realized the song will also work for the Peppermint Twist line dance!
I just love this dance, especially the Charleston steps! Check out the super fun energetic video below of the choreographers leading a group of dancers. And then the next video for a good tutorial.
19. Rita’s Waltz
Count: 24 | Wall: 4 | Level: Waltz Line / Partner Dance |
Choreographer: Jo Thompson-Szymanski
Music: Silver Bells by Martina McBride or A Christmas Card by Scooter Lee
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
Here is another waltz line dance, this one choreographed by Jo Thompson-Symanski. She choreographed it for her mother Rita! There is a video on the Copperknob step sheet of Jo Thompson teaching a one-wall version, but Britt Beresik covers that option as well as the normal 4 wall version in the video below.
Jo Thompson-Szymanski, for a Christmas version, also suggests Scooter Lee’s A Christmas Card. This is a really pretty song that also works great for it!
20. Rockin’ The Wagon Wheel
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: Jamie Marshall (USA) – April 2013
Music: Jingle Bell Rock by Daryl Hall & John Oates
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
This one is interesting because it uses a line dance for Darius Rucker’s song Wagon Wheel! However it isn’t the line dance that I’m used to, so if you too are more used to the Donna Manning & LeAnne Lesmeister version (Rock Me), you get to learn a new version of a line dance for Wagon Wheel!
But honestly, I guess it doesn’t matter since this is a song swap for Christmas! For this line dance swap out Wagon Wheel for the Hall & Oats version of Jingle Bell Rock!
21. Santa Claus Boogie Woogie Line Dance
Count: 48 | Wall: 2 | Level: Beginner / Improver |
Choreographer: Hillbilly Rick (USA) – April 2009
Music: Santa Claus Is Coming (In a boogie-woogie choo-choo train) by The Tractors
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Jeannie Lin
My friend Jeannie reminded me of this! Every year for Christmas, it is sort of a no-brainer to dance Baby Likes to Rock It, but just swap out the Tractors original song for the version they did themselves for Christmas. Check out the demo below where Jeannie’s class is dancing it to the Christmas song in her dance fitness studio.
Fun Fact: The dance Baby Likes to Rock, created by Hillbilly Rick apparently is the most popular dance of all time! He said that in Japan there were over 10,000 people and in China about 20,000 dancing it at one time to set a Guinness Book record! Here’s his video about that!
22. Shotgun Twist
Count: 28 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner / Intermediate |
Choreographer: Unknown
Music: Santa Claus Is Coming (In a boogie-woogie choo-choo train) by The Tractors
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
Here is another line dance using the same Christmas version of Baby Likes to Rock It! This one interestingly enough has fewer steps but is actually a little more difficult. Check out Britt’s video below. I liked the bit about her Copperknob sleuthing to solve the mystery of this missing line dance!
23. Something Easy
Count: 32 | Wall: 2 | Level: Ultra Beginner |
Choreographer: Gail Smith (USA) – June 2011
Music: Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree- Brenda Lee
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
I like how this line dance is called “Something Easy” and it is also an Ultra Beginner. Brenda Lee’s version of Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree has a nice and slow tempo which helps make this a pretty easy dance!
24. Soul Shake
Count: 64 | Wall: 4 | Level: Intermediate |
Choreographer: Fred Whitehouse
Music: Run Run Rudolf – Chuck Berry
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Britt Beresik
For the last couple of Christmas line dance suggestions, I’ve included a couple more challenging dances just in case our more ambitious dancers out there want to have some Christmas spirit and still be challenged a little more.
The first one is Fred Whitehouse’s very popular dance from 2019 Soul Shake, and the Christmas version just changes the song from Soul Shake by Tommy Castro to Run Run Rudolph!
25. Holiday Feelin’
Count: 32 | Wall: 4 | Level: Beginner |
Choreographer: Bonita Malone – November 2022
Music: Holiday Feelin’ by Silverson (featuring Franky C.)
Step Sheet: Click here to download.
Suggested by: Bonita Malone
For the final Christmas line dance suggestion, I have included a new one from Bonita Malone! She also contributed #6 above. This is a beginner, 32-count line dance. This looks like a really fun dance! Check out the videos below of Bonita teaching the dance and then also dancing it with her friends and having too much fun!
Merry Line Dancing!
Well, that’s the list of my 25 Christmas line dance suggestions! If there’s one that is amazing and should have been here, feel free to drop it in a comment below! Have fun teaching and learning some of these wherever you’re dancing and Merry Christmas!
